The Laramie Project is a play about the reaction to the 1998 murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. The murder, denounced as a hate crime, brought attention to the lack of hate crime laws in various states, including Wyoming.
The play draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by a New York theatre company with inhabitants of the town, published news reports, and the company members’ own journal entries.
The Laramie Project is one of the most frequently performed plays in America, as its messages still resonate with countless audiences today. Written by: Moises Kaufman
Directed by Tyson White.
