A Murder Is Announced by Agatha Christie begins with the local newspaper printing a story about a murder, that oddly has yet to occur.

The neighbors soon realize the advertisement was not a game – the man really was killed. But was it murder? Or suicide? The case is brought to Detective Craddock who, with Miss Marple’s help, discovers that the situation becomes more dangerous as time to solve it is running out.

This is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, a determined inspector grimly following the twists and turns, and Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain.
